The way you Frank your mail will be changing:

Mailmark™ is the new 2D barcode - an ‘intelligent’ frank mark which carries machine readable information on the user and the mail you send out.  From Summer 2014 Mailmark will be replacing the current ‘Town and Crown’ mark that is used now.

Royal Mail say that the information carried in the Mailmark™ has both current and future benefits for businesses

So what do I do now if I use a Franking machine?

Mailmark™ will be available to most newer, SMART meter, franking machine models, but you may still need  to upgrade your memory – it’s best to contact your supplier, but do check out Royal Mail’s website to arm yourself with some facts first - http://www.royalmail.com/mailmark/franking

You don’t have to do anything immediately. However over time ALL franked mail will eventually carry this 2D barcode. Until then - “Royal Mail will continue to process existing franking formats for a period after Mailmark™ becomes available.”
